Lawn Fertilization Program
A seasonal fertilization program feeds turf on a schedule that follows Chicago's growing season. We assess the lawn first, then recommend a visit plan that fits the property — not a one-size package.
◆ Why it matters
Why it helps
Timed to the season
Applications are spaced around spring green-up, summer stress and fall root growth.
Based on the property
Sun, shade, soil and current turf condition shape the plan.
Clear visit schedule
You know roughly when each visit is planned and what it covers.
Pairs with other care
Coordinates with aeration, overseeding and mowing schedules.

◆ Timing & conditions
When this work is done best.
Applications follow the growing season, not a fixed calendar date.
Best window
- • Early spring, late spring, early summer, late summer and fall visits track the cool-season growth pattern common in the Chicago area.
- • Fall applications are typically the most valuable of the year for cool-season lawns here.
Workable window
- • Application dates shift year to year with how early the ground warms and how the season runs.
- • Mid-summer visits are timed for heat tolerance rather than pushing growth.
Weather
- • Applications are avoided immediately ahead of heavy rain that would wash product off the surface.
- • Windy days are avoided for even coverage.
- • During drought stress or high heat, we adjust or reschedule rather than treating a stressed lawn.
Site conditions we check
- • Grass type and how much sun each area of the lawn receives.
- • Existing thatch, compaction and general lawn density.
- • Irrigation availability — lawns that cannot be watered respond differently.
- • Pets, children and nearby garden beds, which affect scheduling and coverage decisions.
When we postpone
- • Frozen or snow-covered ground.
- • Lawns in severe drought stress without any watering ability.
- • Newly seeded areas that need a different approach than an established lawn.
How to prepare
- • Mow before the visit where possible and clear toys, hoses and furniture from the lawn.
- • Let us know about pets, wells, ponds and any sensitive plantings.
- • Tell us about recent applications by anyone else so visits are not duplicated.
Aftercare
- • Keep people and pets off treated areas for the interval we state at the visit.
- • Water as directed for the specific application when watering is available.
- • Continue regular mowing at a suitable height; short mowing works against results.
Frequency
- • A typical program is five to six visits spread across the growing season.
- • Fewer visits are possible for lawns that need less input, and we say so rather than selling a full program.
- • This service is not appropriate for every lawn or every property — some sites need renovation, drainage or shade correction first.
Why timing matters: Lawn results come from doing the right thing at the right point in the season. Application timing is adjusted to the actual year rather than a fixed schedule.
Timing guidance is general for the Chicago area. Every property is different, and this service is not the right fit for every site or every season. We confirm suitability, timing and scope during an on-site assessment before any work is scheduled.
